Employment Conditions

The main conditions of service in Instrutech are:

Basis of employment

Staff can be appointed to particular jobs for fixed terms or on a long-term basis. Part-time work is sometimes available.

Salary

Recruitment advertisements give the salary range for the position being filled.

Superannuation

Most staff are able to contribute to the Superannuation scheme which provides benefits if you retire, are retrenched, become an invalid or die.

Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)

Instrutech has an active Equal Opportunity Program. This means that employment decisions are made equitably, regardless of sex, race ethnic origin or disabilities. EEO Contact Officers are available throughout the country to encourage and support staff who belong to groups found to be disadvantaged by employment in Australia.

Occupational Health and Safety

Instrutech is committed to maintaining a healthy and safe working environment. Safety officers are located at all sites. A non-smoking work environment was introduced in 1994.

Recreation Leave

The standard entitlement is four weeks recreation leave on full pay each year. Staff can usually choose their holiday time.

Sick Leave

Staff employed for more than one year are credited with two weeks sick leave on full pay and two weeks on half pay each year. Sick leave accumulates.

Maternity and Parental Leave

A woman who becomes pregnant is eligible for twelve weeks paid leave in conjunction with her confinement, if she has worked for Instrutech for 12 months. She may also take up to 40 weeks leave without pay. Parental leave of up to 40 weeks without pay may be granted to men and also to staff adopting children.

Long Service Leave

Staff are eligible for three months long service leave on full pay after 10 years service.

Flexible Working Hours

Instrutech staff work 36.75 hours over a seven-day working week. Most staff have some flexibility with their attendance pattern subject to meeting work requirements.

Studies Assistance

Staff may be granted study leave to complete a first degree, associate diploma, certificate of technology or other basic course that is appropriate to their career development in Instrutech. Assistance towards an additional or higher qualification may be granted if the course will help Instrutech meet specific skills requirements.

Industrial Participation

Instrutech is committed to providing opportunities for staff to influence decisions affecting them at work. Through information-sharing and consultation, staff can make greater use of their skills and abilities and maximise job satisfaction.
